Submissions

AJMS operates on an open-access, rolling-schedule model — there is no fixed submission deadline. Submit at any time.

Author Guidelines

AJMS aims to bring out the research talent and the works done by social scientists, academia, media practitioners, scholars, and postgraduate students of communication and Africana studies. The journal publishes the following types of submissions: refereed articles, case studies, invited articles, research in progress, literature reviews, project sheets, notes from the field, book/media reviews, and interviews.

Format:  All manuscripts must strictly follow the AJMS/APA formatting guidelines.

Declaration: Submission of an article implies that the work described has not been published previously (except in the form of an abstract or as part of a published lecture or academic thesis), is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, has been approved by all authors, and, if accepted, will not be published elsewhere—including electronically—in the same form, in English or in any other language, without the written consent of the copyright holder.

Financial Support (if any): Authors are requested to acknowledge any financial support received for conducting the research and/or preparing the article. They should also briefly describe the role of the sponsor(s), if any, in the study design; collection, analysis, and interpretation of data; writing of the report; and decision to submit the paper for publication. If the funding source(s) had no such involvement, this should be clearly stated.

Language: All submissions must be written in English.

Call for Papers: AJMS operates on an open-access, rolling-schedule model, meaning there is no fixed paper submission deadline for publication. Annual volumes and their issues are organized into quarterly groupings of published articles. Authors may submit papers at any time, and accepted papers will be published online as soon as they are ready.

An editor may desk-reject a submission if it does not meet the minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are properly structured and clearly articulated. The title should be concise, and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. Meeting these standards will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. Once you are confident that your submission meets these requirements, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.
